Kazakh President pays working visit to Uzbekistan

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Uzbekistan for a working visit. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed the Head of State at Urgench International Airport.

The heads of state visited one of Uzbekistan’s leading light industry enterprises - a carpet factory in Khiva, which supplies products to the domestic market, as well as CIS countries, China and the U.S. The presidents also toured an exhibition showcasing Uzbek industrial goods, including specialized machinery, electrical equipment, horticultural achievements, and products of chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of establishing export-oriented enterprises in border regions.

At the informal meeting the heads of state discussed issues of strengthening the Kazakh-Uzbek strategic partnership and alliance. The trade turnover amounted to about $4.5 billion last year. To date, the sides implement 60 joint projects in industry, energy, transport and logistics, and agro-industrial complex, with an investment volume of over $ 2.5 billion. The project of construction of the Central Asia International Center for Industrial Cooperation is progressing successfully as well. President Tokayev marked that the alliance between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is a vital necessity, since only joint work can ensure the sustainable development of the countries. He supported the adoption of the Strategic Partnership and Alliance Program between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan until 2034.
