Energy, engineering, construction, logistics, and
infrastructure — these areas were the focus of discussions at the
Kazakh-Austrian Business Council, where representatives of the two countries
explored opportunities to expand their partnership. A delegation from the
Austrian Federal Economic Chamber visited Astana for the event, which was also
attended by business representatives from both countries. The Austrian side
emphasized that long-term investment in Kazakhstan is a priority. A project to
build a steel plant with Austrian capital is already set for
implementation. Over the past two
decades, Austria has invested more than $3 billion in Kazakhstan’s economy, and
over 170 companies with Austrian participation are currently registered in the
country. The parties also discussed prospects for joint work in
pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, and aviation. Particular attention was given
to training specialists and strengthening educational and cultural ties between
the two nations.
«Every country needs the best infrastructure, roads,
railways, airports, and so on. We can, I think, contribute a lot to such
things. It is a project in the steel industry, where Austrian company is
modernizing a steel plant here in Kazakhstan,» said Dietmar Fellner, Secretary
General of the Austrian-Kazakh Society.
«At the Business Council meeting, Austrian companies put
forward a wide range of proposals for potential cooperation with Kazakhstan’s
private sector. These included opportunities to participate in the development
of the energy sector, transport and transit infrastructure, as well as in
expanding bilateral trade and industrial collaboration,» said Mukhtar
Tileuberdi, Kazakh Ambassador to Austria.
