Kazakhstan assumes TRACECA chairmanship

Kazakhstan has officially assumed the chairmanship of TRACECA. The 18th annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was held in Astana. One of the key areas of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship will be the development of decisions for the further advancement of the Europe–Caucasus–Asia international transport corridor and the strengthening of the region’s transit potential, as part of the completion of the Strategy until 2036. In addition, it is planned to approve a new concept for reforming the corridor. This will enable the introduction of advanced technologies, taking into account growing transit traffic, and the formation of an updated transport architecture. According to experts, this presents an opportunity for Kazakhstan to strengthen its position as a key logistics hub of Eurasia. This will be supported, among other factors, by the development of transit routes, simplification of border procedures, and implementation of digital solutions. Overall, these measures aim to make TRACECA routes as fast, secure, and economically competitive as possible, experts say. It is worth reminding, TRACECA is an international transport cooperation program between countries of Europe, the Caucasus, and Asia. It includes 14 member states.

«Special attention is currently being paid to the digitalization of transport operations across the region. Within the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, extensive work is underway to transition rail and road transport documentation from paper-based to electronic formats. In addition, TRACECA is actively cooperating with other similar international organizations and participating in numerous joint initiatives in this area,» noted Miras Kuantay, Deputy Director of the Transport Policy Department, Kazakh Ministry of Transport.
