Kazakhstan announced a new phase in nuclear energy development at the 69th IAEA General Conference in Vienna. According to Atomic Energy Agency Chairman Almassadam Satkaliyev, the country aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, with nuclear power set to play a central role in the transition.
«We discussed Kazakhstan’s nuclear energy development plans with Mr. Grossi. He expressed full support for our efforts and commended the Head of State’s initiatives to build at least three nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan, noting that this would create an optimal energy mix by effectively combining renewable and fossil fuel sources,» Satkaliyev said.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi endorsed Kazakhstan’s initiatives and highlighted the country’s remarkable achievements in the nuclear sector. He emphasized that the agency stands ready to support Kazakhstan at every stage in the development of peaceful nuclear energy.
«Which indicates that it
is not only the natural resources that you have which make of course of
Kazakhstan in terms uranium production one of the most important actors in the
global fuel-cycle activities. It’s also your inventiveness, your creativity,
the excellence of your engineers and designers that come with practical
solutions like this,»
Grossi said.
