Mutual Assistance in Nuclear Accident: Mazhilis Approves New Agreement
In case of nuclear accident, all CIS member countries will join efforts. Members of the Mazhilis approved a draft law on ratification of the CIS’ cooperation agreement to ensure readiness to nuclear or radiation accident. According to experts, these measures will enable the state agencies to promptly provide the information and mutual help in case of emergencies. Parties to the treaty that was adopted at a session of the CIS economic council two years ago involved such countries as Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
“This agreement provides for the simplification of the procedures for the cross-border movement of specialized emergency rescue teams, specialists, equipment, vehicles and materials that are used as technical equipment in case of nuclear or radiation accidents,” according to Kazakh Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev.
