Preparations are underway in Kazakhstan for the implementation of a project to produce green hydrogen in the Mangystau region. This initiative was discussed by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Svevind Energy Group’s Chief Executive Officer Wolfgang Kropp. The Head of State was informed about the beginning of preliminary design and survey works as part of the investment agreement. Thus, there are plans to build a desalination plant, renewable energy facilities with a capacity of 40 gigawatts, as well as a water electrolysis plant with a capacity of 20 gigawatts and an annual production capacity of two million tonnes of green hydrogen or 11 million tonnes of green ammonia. The preliminary investment amount is estimated to exceed 50 billion euros. According to Wolfgang Kropp, the start of infrastructure construction is scheduled for 2027, while the commissioning is slated for 2032.
