International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director
General Rafael Grossi emphasized Kazakhstan's key role in global nuclear
security at the opening ceremony of the national pavilion dedicated to the
development of peaceful atom, as part of the 68th session of the IAEA General
Conference. Grossi highlighted that Kazakhstan's rich resources and initiatives
make an invaluable contribution to the industry's development. He also recalled
the long-term cooperation, emphasizing the country's role in hosting the IAEA
Low Enriched Uranium Bank. Grossi also underscored the significance of the
upcoming referendum, noting that the agency is ready to support Kazakhstan at
this important time. In turn, Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev
noted that the referendum, slated for October 6, aligns with democratic
principles.
«As
the President told me a couple of years ago, when we met, the people of
Kazakhstan are going to be deciding on a future that will hopefully include
clean nuclear energy. From the perspective of the Agency, it’s all about giving
you the necessary support for that, safety, security, and it requires the
international confidence, that of course comes from your own actions, but
indispensably from the presence of the IAEA alongside in this process,» said
International Atomic Energy Agency Director General
Rafael Grossi.
