Kazakh school students create smart learning assistants

The robot is named Odysseus, after the ancient Greek hero — a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. The smart device can not only answer questions and host quizzes but also recognize people, raise its hand, and count students in the classroom. According to the developers, this assistant could become an invaluable aid to teachers. Odysseus was created at a school in Astana and will soon be able to speak two languages. In the future, similar intelligent assistants are expected to appear in every classroom.

«It will primarily detect unnecessary movements by students in the classroom. Each student will be assigned a unique ID, which the robot will use to determine exactly who is doing what — whether someone turns around or might be copying from their phone. It will record everything and send the data to the teacher. We plan to fully refine this robot and then create similar models for different classrooms,» said robotics teacher Dastan Satuov.

A school student from Atyrau has developed a smart robot for remote learning. The device, created by Bekarys Yerikuly, can conduct video lessons, display educational materials, and move on command. The robot is easy to operate: it connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth and uses Wi-Fi for video calls. According to its creator, such assistants could be useful not only in schools but also in hospitals, government institutions, and service centers. In the future, the young inventor plans to equip the robot with AI and make it fully autonomous.

«My robot will be able to operate for 5 to 10 years. I already have a website that allows doctors and other specialists to work remotely and communicate with clients through the robot. For students and teachers, it provides an opportunity to stay connected and hold online lessons,» Yerikuly said.
