Kazakh President signs decree to hold nationwide referendum

A nationwide referendum on the draft new Constitution of Kazakhstan will be held on March 15. The corresponding decree was signed by the Head of State. The ballot will contain one question: «Do you accept the new Constitution?» The draft Basic Law was officially published in Kazakhstan’s media today. The Central Election Commission is responsible for preparing and conducting the referendum, while the government and local executive bodies are expected to provide the necessary support. The Constitutional Commission presented the final draft of the new Constitution to the Head of State yesterday, developed following 12 meetings. The text was prepared based on citizen and expert proposals submitted through the eGov and e-Otinish platforms since October of last year. The draft also takes into account the approaches formulated from October to January by the working group on parliamentary reform.
