Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting
with Mazhilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov. During the meeting, the Head of State
was briefed on the Chamber’s work on legislative support for the constitutional
reform. Koshanov reported that the Parliament has adopted seven constitutional
laws in a timely manner, ensuring the practical implementation of the new
Constitution’s provisions. These include laws on the President, the Kurultai, the
Kazakhstan Khalyk Kenesi (People’s Council), the status of the capital, the
special legal regime of the city of Alatau, and others. The drafting process
was conducted transparently, with the involvement of the public and expert
communities. Overall, since the beginning of the session, the Mazhilis has
adopted 89 laws and sent them to the Senate, including the Construction Code,
the Digital Code, as well as laws on artificial intelligence, banks, and
banking activities. A further 80 draft laws are currently under consideration
by MPs. According to the Mazhilis Speaker, by the end of the session, they will
also hear reports from the Government and the Supreme Audit Chamber on the
execution of last year’s budget.
