Kazakh President pays tribute to victims of political repressions

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the ALZHIR Museum and Memorial Complex, where he paid tribute to the victims of political repressions and famine. The Head of State noted that during the campaign of forced collectivization, people lost their livestock and property, died from hunger, and many were forced to leave the country. During Stalin’s repressions, thousands of people were subjected to torture and execution. 11 GULAG camps were located on the territory of Kazakhstan, with ALZHIR being one of them. Today, comprehensive work is underway in the country to rehabilitate the victims of political repression. More than 300,000 people have been rehabilitated. A 72-volume collection has been published based on documents studied by the State Commission.
