Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
proposed solutions to address climate threats at the summit in Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting of world leaders, he presented Kazakhstan’s ambitious
strategy for achieving sustainable development, focusing on three key areas:
digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI), big infrastructure projects,
and nuclear energy. The President highlighted the country’s plans to establish
a nuclear energy sector, noting that the construction of a nuclear power plant
would be a significant step toward sustainable development in the country’s
energy sector. Furthermore, he stated that Kazakhstan seeks to secure a diverse
supply to global markets of critical raw materials needed to meet carbon
emission reduction goals. Tokayev also emphasized the importance of transport
infrastructure in fostering sustainable development.
«We are investing heavily in transportation
infrastructure, including our roads, railways, airports, and seaports. To
further enhance connectivity, Kazakhstan is committed to developing the
Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the North-South transport
corridor, while also playing pivotal role in Belt and Road initiative. We are
committed to building resilient supply chains that not only strengthen regional
connectivity but also ensure sustainable economic growth,» the President
said.
One of the main challenges facing Central Asia
is global warming. This issue is a significant threat to the region’s
ecosystems, living conditions, and food security. Additionally, Central Asia is
heavily reliant on transboundary rivers. According to Tokayev, it is crucial to
establish early warning systems and enhance the management of water and land
resources.
«To this end, we must invest in water-saving
technologies, modernize irrigation systems, establish effective water
management agreements, as well as utilize artificial intelligence, satellite
monitoring, and other digital tools,» the President noted.
Food security also demands urgent attention,
the President stressed. He emphasized
that innovative approaches are necessary for ensuring stable supplies to world
markets. Kazakhstan is committed to advancing sustainable agricultural
practices and technologies. Tokayev believes that there is a need for a new
global development paradigm to confront these challenges. The President named
the following specific measures: the availability of increased green financing,
enhanced international cooperation on technology transfer, technical support,
scientific research, and a synergistic relationship between climate priorities,
economic development, and AI. According to the Head of State, these principles
will help form a holistic framework for solving global problems.
