Kazakh PM reviews industrial potential of Kostanai region

During a working visit, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov explored the potential of the Kostanai region in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, and the agro-industrial complex. Over the past 11 months, the volume of industrial production in the region reached 2.5 trillion tenge, with six industrial projects valued at 125 billion tenge completed. First, Bektenov visited the Sokolov-Sarbai Mining Production Association, which produces 35 million tonnes of ore annually for domestic use and exports to Russia and China. He was briefed on a project for the construction of a hot briquetted iron plant, set to be completed by the end of 2028. This facility will have an annual capacity of two million tonnes, with investments anticipated to exceed 500 billion tenge.¤

«For us, this is truly a breakthrough project that will allow us to manufacture products with a higher-margin processing, because this is the product that no longer requires blast furnace processing and is directly used in furnaces,» said Sergey Kuzmenko, general director of the Sokolov-Sarbai Mining Production Association.

Today, the Kostanai region is the country’s leader in mechanical engineering. The new Kia plant, constructed in the industrial zone, is expected to boost development further. The plant aims to produce up to 70,000 cars annually, which will be sold not only in Kazakhstan but also to Central Asian countries and beyond. Importantly, the plant will operate on a complete cycle basis. The project’s cost is $200 million, with 80 percent stemming from direct foreign investments. Additionally, Bektenov explored the development of agriculture. This year, approximately 175 billion tenge has been allocated to the sector. 96 investment projects will be implemented in the agro-industrial complex within two years. The Prime Minister was also updated on plans to construct a milling complex.

«We produce premium, first, and second-grade flour, exporting to Uzbekistan and Afghanistan while supplying 45 percent to Kazakhstan. With the launch of a second mill, we aim to expand exports to new markets. In addition to the countries mentioned, we intend to send to the United Arab Emirates,» shared Sailaubek Alishev, director of a mill complex.
