Kazakh Parliament sums up its work

The Mazhilis, the lower house of the Kazakh Parliament, has summarized the results of its fourth session of the eighth convocation. According to Mazhilis Chairman Yerlan Koshanov, the Chamber considered 190 bills, with every third bill developed at the initiative of MPs. As a result, the President signed 110 laws, including the Digital Code and the Law on Artificial Intelligence, which lay the foundation for large-scale transformations across various sectors of the country.

«The current session has been one of the most significant in the modern history of Kazakhstan’s Parliament. As the President noted, from July 1, Kazakhstan is entering a new era. To implement the new Constitution, updated laws on the President, the Status of the Capital, and the Administrative-Territorial Structure were adopted, along with new laws on the Kurultai and the Status of its Deputies, and the Kazakhstan Khalyk Kenesi. As a result, the full legislative framework required for the new Constitution to come into force has been established within the set timeframe,» Koshanov said.

At the Senate’s final session, Chairman Maulen Ashimbayev reviewed the Senate’s work over three decades. Over that period, the upper house held nearly 900 sessions and adopted more than 3,500 laws, with every tenth bill initiated by MPs. The two chambers will officially conclude their work in their current format on June 30. Under the new Constitution, Parliament will be restructured as a Kurultai following the elections.

«In addition to its legislative work, the Chamber held meetings and events in various formats, addressing key issues important for the country’s development. Around 3,000 parliamentary inquiries were submitted to the Government. Throughout this work, senators consistently acted in the interests of the people and followed a state-focused approach,» Ashimbayev said.
