The athletes who will represent
Kazakhstan in zhamby atu at the upcoming fifth World Nomad Games this autumn in
Astana have been selected. The national team in Kazakh traditional horseback
archery consists of four athletes. The selection process involved 10 of the
country’s top athletes, who competed in Hungarian, Asian, Turkic, and zhamby
styles. The athletes are currently in a training camp, with the final stage set
to take place in Astana from August 27 to September 7.
«Our goal was to participate in the World Nomad
Games. The selection process was truly spectacular. I believe we will
represent our country with honor and make every effort to win,» said Yeralkhan
Aikoz, a member of Kazakhstan’s national zhamby atu team.
«The preparation of our national team is
progressing at a high level. I can say that we are 70 to 80 percent
ready, but there is still work to be done. Four of our athletes have secured
spots for the upcoming fifth World Nomad Games, and intensive work is being
done. After all, the World Nomad Games are like the Olympics for our national
sports,» said Yeldos Badashev, head coach of Kazakhstan’s national zhamby atu
team.
Notably, the fifth World Nomad Games, featuring
around 2,000 athletes, will take place from September 8 to13 in the Kazakh
capital. A total of 97 medal sets will be contested across 21 different
sports at this large-scale competition.
