Today, a solemn welcoming
ceremony for Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, who arrived in
Kazakhstan on a state visit, took place at Akorda. The leaders of the two
countries introduced members of their respective delegations. The commander of
the honor guard delivered a welcome report, followed by the playing of the
national anthems of both countries.
The presidents held talks in both narrow and expanded formats. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed confidence that the Mongolian leader’s visit would give new momentum to relations between the two countries, which are actively developing. They reached a strategic level following the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Mongolia in 2024. At that time, 11 documents were signed and a cooperation roadmap through 2027 was approved. Last year, bilateral trade exceeded $130 million, with turnover increasing by nearly 8%. The goal is to expand export-import ties to $500 million.
«With each passing year, trade turnover continues to grow. We are planning the implementation of specific projects in the industrial sector. Today, a Kazakh-Mongolian business forum is taking place in the capital, with the participation of a number of Mongolian companies. We fully support this initiative and express our gratitude for the support you have provided,» Tokayev said.
«The further strengthening of friendly relations, as well as the effective expansion of trade and economic cooperation, are among the priorities of Mongolia’s foreign policy. I would like to note that over the past two years, we have jointly implemented a number of important initiatives in interstate relations and have managed to bring our cooperation to a new level. The highest legislative bodies play a special role in strengthening trust between the two countries,» Khurelsukh said.
Following the talks, the heads of state held a joint briefing. The President of Kazakhstan noted that the discussions were substantive and productive. One of the key topics was the expansion of cooperation in the transit and transport sector. The parties will resume flights on the Astana–Ulaanbaatar and Oskemen–Ölgii routes. The issue of constructing a highway was also discussed, with both sides expressing interest in the project. Furthermore, there are significant opportunities for joint Kazakhstan–Mongolia projects in the mining sector, digitalization, and agriculture.
«Today, ensuring that livestock products meet international safety standards is of key importance. Kazakhstan has established the production of an effective vaccine to protect farm animals from diseases. We are interested in supplying the domestic vaccine to Mongolia and are also considering the possibility of launching joint production facilities in the future. Kazakhstan is ready to support Mongolia’s plans to create an Earth remote sensing system, as well as to train qualified specialists for this sector,» Tokayev added.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is another area of engagement between
the two sides. Tokayev highlighted the victory of Mongolian singer Michelle
Joseph at the international vocal competition Silk Way Star, held last autumn
in Astana. Kazakhstan is also ready to increase the number of annual
educational grants allocated to citizens of Mongolia, the Head of State
emphasized. In addition, a proposal was made to establish a branch of one of
Kazakhstan’s leading universities in Ulaanbaatar. Overall, 13 documents were
signed following the talks.
Tokayev awarded the President of Mongolia the Altyn Qyran Order (the Order
of the Golden Eagle). The Head of State emphasized that the presentation of the
highest state award reflects the deep respect of the Kazakh people for him.
