Kazakhstan will modernize irrigation and drainage systems in southern areas, building and reconstructing over 100,000 hectares in the Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Turkistan regions, as was announced at today’s meeting of the Coordination Council for Cooperation of the Kazakh Government with international financial institutions, namely the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The parties considered connecting 1,500 residential areas with more than a million citizens in the country’s south to high-speed internet. Discussions also covered the plans for modernizing railways, purchasing new wagons and electric locomotives, and reconstructing the Karagandy-Zhezkazgan highway. The commissioning of this road will bolster logistics services and trade in the region.
