2050, Kazakhstan plans to
increase the capacity of Almaty Airport
to 55 million passengers and 500,000 tonnes
of cargo per year. Currently, the airport serves over 12
million passengers and accounts for around
70% of the country’s total air traffic. The government
discussed the progress of the modernization project, which provides for the reconstruction
of three runways, the construction of a cargo apron
and logistics complexes, and the creation
of modern passenger infrastructure. The domestic terminal
is being renovated, along with the construction of a de-icing platform
and soundproofing of nearby residential buildings. The
project has attracted $260 million in investment. Prime
Minister Olzhas Bektenov emphasized that Almaty Airport will become part of an integrated
ecosystem being developed across six cities
in Kazakhstan. The project
is being implemented as part of the President’s directive to
establish a major international air hub, strengthening Kazakhstan’s position
as a regional transport and logistics center.
