There are plans to
extract and process up to five million tonnes of gold-bearing ore per year in
southern Kazakhstan. A large mining and metallurgical plant is slated for
gradual launch in the Zhambyl region between 2026 to 2029. The Kazakh
government discussed the construction of the new enterprise. Kazakh Prime Minister
Alikhan Smailov and Monterra Group representative Johann Stoll discussed
various aspects, including the development of technical documentation for the
project, infrastructure planning, training of young specialists from the local
population, and environmental preservation measures. The project is expected to
attract 832 billion tenge in foreign direct investment. The plant,
incorporating advanced European technologies, is anticipated to have a
multiplier effect on the development of sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy.
