The Trans-Caspian underwater fiber-optic cable is scheduled
for completion by the end of 2026. Local engineers have begun surveying the
seabed where the first underwater communication line between Kazakhstan and
Azerbaijan will be laid. A specialized vessel carrying the necessary equipment has
departed from the port of Bautino. Experts will examine the depth, fissures, as
well as the composition and density of the seabed. The work will be carried out
along the planned cable route from Aktau to Sumqayit. Surveys have also begun
on the Azerbaijani side. The two countries agreed to connect their shores via
an underwater cable more than two years ago. According to estimates, the line will
have a capacity of up to 400 terabits per second.
«After the project is implemented, we aim to increase
Kazakhstan’s share of data transmission between Europe and Asia to 5%. Most
importantly, it will improve the quality and accessibility of the internet.
Overall, this project will make a significant contribution to the development
of the country’s information and telecommunication infrastructure. By the end
of 2026, the fiber-optic communication line will be launched, marking the start
of the first data transmissions through our country,» noted Azamat Seriktayev, Head
of the Department at the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and
Aerospace Industry.
