Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed condolences to the President
of France in connection with the numerous victims in the Mayotte archipelago.
In a telegram, the Head of State wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.
Last weekend, the Indian Ocean island was hit by the devastating tropical
cyclone Chido, the strongest storm in the region in a century, with wind gusts
exceeding 220 km/h. Hospitals, schools, and residential buildings were
destroyed. Rescue operations are ongoing around the clock. While the exact
number of casualties remains unknown, local authorities estimate the toll could
reach hundreds or even thousands.
