Uzbekistan set to increase renewables share in energy mix to 54% by 2030

Uzbekistan is increasing its share of renewable energy sources and is currently implementing a number of green projects. Work on six of these projects, as well as an energy storage system, is being carried out in cooperation with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Switzerland, and China. In partnership with China, a 500-megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant was built in the country last year. It now generates over one billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, meeting one-third of the energy needs of the Bukhara region.

«We are already generating at full capacity - 500 megawatt-hours. The site is equipped with two transformers. Inside, we use 57 inverter units. Nearly one million solar panels have been installed. The electricity generated is fed into the general power grid,» noted Deputy Project Director Bekzod Narzullaev.

«At present, the equipment is reliably supplying the required amount of electricity. An analysis of the area’s characteristics explains why this specific location was chosen for the construction of the station - the indicators confirm its efficiency. From here, 500 megawatts of power are transmitted to the general grid. The station was built in accordance with the most modern standards, and I am confident that it will reliably serve the development of Uzbekistan’s energy system for many years to come,» said Duan Ruibing, Control Room Engineer at the station, China.
