The Nur Otan party will be renamed ‘Amanat’. Today Kassym-Jomart Tokayev supported the idea of changing the name, voiced by Speaker of the Mazhilis Yerlan Koshanov. An extraordinary congress of the party, which is awaiting major changes, was held in the Kazakh capital. President Tokayev noted the need for a complete transformation of the political association. This is both the rejection of bureaucracy and voter outreach. The congress also elected new members of the party’s political council. It included Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov and Head of the Presidential Administration Murat Nurtleu. Former Mazhilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin and General Director of the Pavlodar Oil Chemistry Refinery Ospanbek Alseitov, on the contrary, left the political council. In addition, staff cuts are expected. Thus, there will no longer be any deputy chairmen of the party in the regions. Their functions will be performed by secretaries. The number of public councils of the organization will also be significantly reduced.
