On the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General
Assembly in New York, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a series of
bilateral talks with European leaders. The discussions focused on trade,
economic, investment, and humanitarian cooperation, digitalization, and
international issues.
At a meeting with Prime Minister of Luxembourg Luc
Frieden, Tokayev underlined the constructive nature of bilateral relations. The
two leaders focused on the prospects for joint projects in the digital and
financial technology sectors and agreed to intensify contacts between the
business communities of the two countries.
At
talks with Prince Albert II of Monaco, Tokayev noted the significant potential for expanding economic, cultural, and
humanitarian cooperation, and invited the Prince to pay an official visit to
Kazakhstan.
In
New York, Tokayev met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the state of Kazakh-French relations, calling France a key partner for Kazakhstan in the
European Union (EU). The parties confirmed the successful
development of joint projects in energy, transport, agriculture, and healthcare, and exchanged views on pressing geopolitical issues.
In a
conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, the Head of State stressed the importance of high-level political
dialogue and expressed confidence that the Finnish leader’s upcoming visit to Kazakhstan would open up new opportunities for trade, economic, and
humanitarian partnership. Tokayev and Stubb also discussed bilateral and
international issues.
Tokayev also met with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De
Wever, noting that Brussels is among the country’s ten largest investors. Last
year, bilateral trade volume approached half a billion dollars. Belgium is one
of Kazakhstan’s most important partners in the EU. The parties discussed
prospects for cooperation in critical minerals, petrochemicals, agriculture,
industry, transport, artificial intelligence, and education.
