K. Tokayev on need to create international water and energy consortium

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the need to create the International Water and Energy Consortium during a meeting with President of the European Council Charles Michel. The organization’s activities will be aimed at ensuring a balance of the vital interests of the region’s states in hydropower, irrigation and environmental protection. In this regard, he urged European partners to make a contribution to the implementation of Kazakhstan’s initiative. President Tokayev also highly appreciated the dynamic development of trade, economic and investment communications. According to him, the EU is the largest investor in Kazakhstan’s economy with a total investment volume of US$160 billion.

“In the pandemic time, I guess, the cooperation with Kazakhstan was quite well, so Kazakhstan even in 2020 is the most important trading partner for the European Union and the Central Asian region. And now we have to look to new project regarding decarburization,” said Bernd Lange, Chairperson, European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade.

During the meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, President Tokayev spoke about the development of the Kazakh-made vaccine QazVac, as well as proposed to establish cooperation between the national holding QazBioPharm and the recently created Belgian biopharmaceutical platform.
