29 people
survived, and 38 lost their lives in the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane
in Aktau. These official figures were announced by the head of the government
commission, Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev. He noted that the
hospitalized victims are receiving full medical care, with highly qualified
national-level specialists involved. An air ambulance team from Azerbaijan and
a special flight provided by Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, which
evacuated its citizens, arrived in Kazakhstan. Relatives of the injured and
deceased are also arriving, with the regional administration providing
necessary assistance. Psychological support teams are working with them as
well. A criminal case has been opened regarding the crash, and an
interdepartmental operational-investigative group has been formed. The causes
of the crash are under investigation.
«As part of
the initiated criminal case, all evidence will be collected, necessary
examinations will be conducted, and the cause of the crash will be determined
in collaboration with relevant agencies of neighboring countries. This includes
the decoding of the black boxes, among other steps. Our findings will be
published promptly. At this stage, it is premature to make any statements or
assign causes for the plane crash. Let us allow the experts to proceed with
their work. Everything is under Kazakhstan’s jurisdiction, as the air accident
occurred within its territory. The entire investigation is being closely
monitored by the Prosecutor General,» said Bozumbayev.
Work
continues at the crash site to dismantle the aircraft’s structure. Over 300
people, more than 100 pieces of equipment, two aircraft, and six canine units
are involved in the response efforts. The flight was carrying citizens from
four countries, including Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and
Russia. All six Kazakh nationals, including one child, died. The UN
Secretary-General also expressed his condolences and wished a swift and full
recovery to the injured. Today, Azerbaijan is observing a day of mourning for
those who lost their lives in the Baku-Grozny flight.
