The volume of freight
transportation in Kazakhstan will increase to 300 million tonnes by the end of 2023
from 246 million reached since the beginning of the year. Kazakh Minister of
Industry and Infrastructure Development Marat Karabayev announced the
development rate of the country’s transport and transit potential, revealing
the plans to build over 1,300 kilometers of railways in the coming years. These
are the Dostyk-Moiynty, Bakhty-Ayagoz, Darbaza-Maktaaral lines, and a bypass
line around Almaty. Also, existing railways will be repaired, new locomotives
and wagons will be purchased, and stations and railroad complexes will be
modernized.
