First scientific and practical center of architecture ‘OITEK’ opens in Kazakhstan

Preservation of national traditions of architecture and their application in modern urban planning - presentation of the research center of architecture ‘OITEK’ took place in the capital of Kazakhstan. They will not only study the historical buildings of the country, but also further disseminate the unique architectural style of nomads in the construction of modern buildings. The center will be headed by a famous architect, legendary author of the Kazakh national emblem Zhandarbek Malibekov. A large-scale research work will be carried out under his leadership. It will be based on an in-depth study of the fundamental structure of the country's ancient settlements. It is expected that it will train specialists of a new formation capable of creating a unique urban landscape using national architectural motifs.

“We will introduce students to the architecture that has evolved for thousands of years. These are Balbals, Tambaly, and underground pantheons. We need to study all this carefully, reconstruct and restore ancient architectural monuments. We will train such specialists. In the future we plan to collect an encyclopedia of all monuments of Kazakhstan. The more we learn about the origins of the past, the more effectively we can move forward,” said Zhandarbek Malibekov, an architect, Honored Figure of Kazakhstan.

“Our history remembers the developed urban culture, when cities with remarkable architecture were built. However, most of them have not survived to our time. All this needs to be restored. I think that the center under the leadership of Zhandarbek Malibekov will do it successfully. After all, our capital, like other cities of the country, needs its own colorful national architectural style. I believe that this center is a treasure trove of knowledge for future architects who need to develop a different way of thinking. I think the guys are lucky, because they’ll be working with a real legend like Zhandarbek,” said Yerlan Sydykov, Rector of the Eurasian National University.
