Small Kurultai of Kazakhs kicks off in Istanbul

Istanbul is hosting the Small Kurultai of Kazakhs. This year, it marks the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. The three day event gathered representatives of Kazakh diasporas from Turkey and Europe. The guests will have a heavy agenda. In particular, there will be the opening of the park named after famous athlete Mustafa Ozturk, ‘Alystagy Agaiyn’ film screening, the opening of several exhibitions. Every year, the most current issues are discussed at the Kurultai. This year, participants will talk about condition and opportunities of the Kazakh diasporas abroad, including in Turkey. In addition, the participants will make an appeal.

“Kurultai is an annual event. For Kazakhs living outside their historical homeland, it is very important to keep in touch, communicate, and know about each other’s problems and achievements. That’s the main goal. Kurultai is a bridge between Kazakhstan and Kazakhs from other countries,” said Adilbek Ybyraiymuly, Deputy Chairperson, World Association of Kazakhs.
