The Presidential
Center in Astana hosted a panel discussion dedicated to the 80th anniversary of
the UN and the day Kazakhstan joined the organization in 1992. Participants
discussed nuclear disarmament, regional security, sustainable development, and
Kazakhstan’s key initiatives within the UN framework. The event highlighted the
country’s contributions to global peace and the UN’s role in international
processes. Diplomats, political scientists, and scholars emphasized the need to
strengthen international cooperation to address pressing challenges such as
climate change and global security. The discussion also explored future
interaction between Kazakhstan and the UN.
«Kazakhstan is a country with a well-developed
system of political and economic architecture. But at the same time, it is crucial
for us to use the experience that has been collected within the UN to bring it
here. This interaction supports Kazakhstan’s successful development. There were
initiatives to eliminate nuclear weapons on the country’s territory and the
nuclear infrastructure as a whole. In addition, one of the latest initiatives
that we are currently working on is the Regional Center for Sustainable
Development for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. It would unite the
efforts of all UN structures and bring synergy to project implementation and
coordination in the region,» said Kazakh First Deputy Minister of Foreign
Affairs Akan Rakhmetullin.
