Domestic armored vehicle unveiled in Astana

A domestically produced universal amphibious armored vehicle was presented in Astana. Defense Minister Ruslan Zhaksylykov was briefed on the technical specifications of the Terrex 2-Barys-A, which features an 8x8 wheel configuration. He was also informed about the vehicle’s capabilities, including the ability to overcome various obstacles, including water barriers, in extreme conditions. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 90 km/h and is equipped with a combat system featuring weapons of various calibers. Production will take place at a domestic military plant.

«With these advancements, we are confident that the army’s combat capability will be enhanced. Of course, there is still a long way to go in testing the vehicle. It will undergo military trials under the most challenging conditions, in both winter and summer, across all regions of Kazakhstan. We hope that our joint efforts will result in a product that meets the current demands of the Armed Forces,» said Zhaksylykov.

A contract was signed at the end of last year with the Singaporean company ST Engineering for the production of a new armored vehicle in Kazakhstan. The company specializes in innovative solutions in the aerospace, electrical, land, and marine industries and has offices in numerous countries worldwide. The agreement includes engineering and technical support for the design and production of this new type of armored vehicle in Kazakhstan.

«I think there is some potential that we see, you have very good technology, you have very good skilled workers. There is a possibility of investment in this region,» said Tan Pek Tong, Deputy President of ST Engineering Land Systems.
