Development prospects for Kazakhstan’s geological industry

A total of 17 mineral deposits with reserves and resources have been registered in the state inventory in 2024 following geological exploration. These deposits include reserves of gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead, tungsten, and chromium. Additionally, six hydrocarbon deposits have been added to this list for the first time. In line with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s instructions, geological and geophysical studies will be conducted over 2,200,000 square kilometres by the end of 2026. Currently, the country’s mineral resource base comprises about 1,000 deposits of solid minerals. Explorations for rare earth metals are ongoing at 12 sites, with estimates indicating that reserves of cerium and lanthanides at one of these sites are approximately 935,000 tonnes.
