Creative industries development discussed in Almaty

A forum dedicated to the development of the creative economy was held in Almaty. Developers and entrepreneurs are jointly seeking practical tools for the sector’s growth and advancement. The sector currently spans 12 areas, from film and fashion to IT and game development. The forum features panel discussions and workshops where participants share experiences in digital content creation, PR strategies, and the use of artificial intelligence tools. AI has now permeated every field, most notably game development, advertising, and design. According to experts, it serves primarily as an assistive tool in these fields.

«This is indeed a new tool – a highly useful one that significantly simplifies many processes, including film production at the post-production stage. When used properly, it can truly help create very interesting and practical projects,» said Diana Ashimova, a film producer.

One of the standout representatives of a new generation of Kazakh creators is Aliaskar Kuttymurat, a first-year New Media student. His journey began with amateur videos created using AI tools and has since gained international recognition. Together with his team, he placed seventh at an international hackathon, outperforming dozens of competitors from 13 countries. His latest work is dedicated to the beauty of his homeland.

«I’m genuinely passionate about this field and actively involved in it, creating various videos and trying my hand at filmmaking. I want to create a solid film project. I want to show and prove that Kazakhstan can compete on the global stage, that the industry is developing here, and that AI in Kazakhstan is already at a high level,» Kuttymurat said.

The creative economy is becoming a global trend, and Kazakhstan is no exception. It is showing dynamic growth in the country, evolving from a niche area into an independent sector of the economy. According to the Ministry of Culture and Information, the share of creative industries in Kazakhstan’s GDP stands at 1%, and is expected to double by 2029.
