Modernization of railway stations underway in Kazakhstan

Over 80 railway stations in Kazakhstan are being modernized this year. Large-scale reconstruction and renovation of railway facilities continues across the country. This is one of the key projects for the development of transport infrastructure. In total, work is being carried out at 124 sites. At the locations of 42 outdated, demolished buildings, modern, energy-efficient facilities are now being constructed. In several regions, from Almaty to North Kazakhstan, the pace of work currently exceeds 50%. The government notes that modernizing the stations is a step toward strengthening Kazakhstan’s transit and transport potential. Modern railway hubs will become important elements of the Middle Corridor, which connects China and Europe via Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea. In the long term, the program will give a new boost to logistics development, enhance the country’s competitiveness, and reinforce Kazakhstan’s role as a leading transit hub in Central Asia.

«This year, the modernization and reconstruction of railway stations has commenced. Contractors were selected within a short timeframe, and turnkey contracts were signed on terms acceptable to both the contractors and the local authorities. The government has taken all necessary measures to ensure the timely implementation of this task. All construction work must be completed within the established deadlines while adhering to quality standards. Personal responsibility for this assignment rests with the first heads of the local executive bodies,» Bektenov noted.
