The Central Referendum Commission (CRC) has announced the preliminary results of voting in the national referendum on the new Constitution. Vote counting has been completed at all polling stations across Kazakhstan and abroad. More than 73% of citizens took part in the vote — over 9,127,000 people. Of those who voted, more than 87% supported the adoption of the country’s new Basic Law.
«According to the legislation on the nationwide
referendum, a referendum is considered valid if more than half of all eligible
citizens take part in the vote. A decision on a matter submitted to a national
referendum — namely, the adoption of a new Constitution — is deemed approved if
more than half of those who participated in the vote support it in no fewer
than two-thirds of the regions, cities of national significance, and the
capital,» said CRC Chairman
Nurlan Abdirov.
