The construction of the Darbaza-Maktaaral
railway line, spanning 152 kilometers, is underway in Kazakhstan. The
infrastructure project is being implemented under the directive of President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and aims to enhance the country’s transit and transport
potential. The first 30 kilometers of the track are currently being laid, with
construction work progressing in two shifts.
«This is a new project, and we are currently
carrying out only earthworks, building embankments. Next year, we will begin
the main work. As part of the railway construction, bridges will be built, and
culverts of various diameters will be installed. This year, our plan includes
completing earthworks with a total volume of 5.5 million cubic meters,» said representative
of the construction company Arman Ansatbayev.
The railway line is expected to be put into
operation in December 2026. A total of 240 billion tenge will be allocated for
its construction. Notably, around 20,000 tonnes of rails will be laid, with all
necessary construction materials produced by domestic enterprises. The Darbaza-Maktaaral
railway line will optimize cargo flows between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It
will also enable the country to increase international transit and export
volumes. This section will become part of a convenient route connecting central
Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.
