Ahead of Victory Day,
war veteran Sungat Sattygulov was honoured by young Karagandy residents and
military personnel. A small concert was organized outside the home of the
102-year-old front-line soldier, where schoolchildren performed wartime songs.
«I wish excellent
studies to those learning, and loyal service to those working for Kazakhstan. I wish you all the best,» Sattygulov said.
Sattygulov fought in the battles near
Stalingrad. Despite being wounded in 1943, he returned to the front after recovering
in hospital and took part in the liberation of Minsk in 1944. For his courage
and devotion to his homeland, Sattygulov was awarded the Order of the Patriotic
War, second class, and the medals For Battle Merit, For the Victory over
Germany, and For the Defense of Stalingrad.
