This year, the legendary singer Bibigul
Tulegenova celebrates her 95th birthday. Ahead of the renowned artist's
anniversary, a grand concert was held at the Astana Opera theater in the Kazakh
capital. Prominent artists, ballet dancers, and leading local ensembles gathered
to congratulate the celebrated singer.
For over 70 years, the name of Bibigul
Tulegenova has been consistently associated with exceptional professionalism,
purity of performance, and a deep love for national musical art. Known as the «Kazakh
Nightingale», the singer has a diverse repertoire that includes folk songs,
works by renowned Kazakh composers, as well as romances, opera arias, and
masterpieces of Western European music. This repertoire features pieces such as
«Gaukhartas» and «Zhiyrma Bes», along with works like «Kos Karlygash», «Yeske
Alu», «Bulbul», and many others. Throughout her illustrious career, Bibigul
Tulegenova has received nearly thirty awards. She has also been recognized by
UNESCO as one of the twenty outstanding women of the 20th century.
«One should always strive to learn the
history of their country and its culture. Before performing, whether it is a
folk piece or a Kazakh opera, I do not just warm up my voice; I carefully study
every line of the text. I do this to get into the meaning of the piece, then I recite
it and memorize it. Only then do I perform the piece along with the music. Only
in this way can a singer truly grasp the meaning of the work, and the
performance itself will change,» noted Bibigul Tulegenova, People's Artist of
the USSR.
