Cirque du Soleil brings new production to Kazakhstan

The legendary Cirque du Soleil has returned to Kazakhstan. To bring the unique show to Astana, nearly 200 tonnes of equipment, stage sets, and costumes were transported from Montreal, Canada, aboard two cargo aircraft. The performance features no animals, instead focusing on highly complex acrobatic acts and emotionally rich theatrical storytelling. The troupe includes performers and technical specialists from 25 countries.

«At Cirque du Soleil, our mission is to evoke the senses, invoke the imagination and provoke the emotions of people around the world. So, we tour year-round. And adding a new country, coming here to Kazakhstan with a touring show is just very much aligned with our mission. So, we are super excited to be here and to meet new audiences and it is the first time that we come with the full touring show. We were here in 2017 with a special event for EXPO 2017said Janie Mallet, official Cirque Du Soleil representative.

Each new production takes around three years to prepare. This time, the renowned circus company has brought OVO to Kazakhstan – a show that tells the story of the world of insects. The production features 53 performers on stage, while another 50 specialists work behind the scenes. Since its premiere in 2009, the show has been staged in more than 40 countries worldwide. A total of 14 performances are scheduled in Kazakhstan, with the tour continuing in Almaty from June 11.

«We have been rehearsing for several days now, setting up props. We have very large, grand-scale props, and everything is being placed on stage as we prepare the aerial equipment. I think you’ve already heard that our show is about insects, so today the insects will surprise you. If you think Cirque du Soleil is just for kids, adults will be just as amazed by the show,» said Arthur Dudov, Cirque du Soleil artist.
