China-Central Asia Human Rights Development Forum takes place in Xi’an

The 2025 China-Central Asia Human Rights Development Forum was held in the Chinese city of Xi’an. Experts discussed ways to deepen mutual exchange, emphasizing that the realization of economic and social rights serves as a solid foundation for improving people’s quality of life.

«When it comes to human rights, China primarily approaches the issue through the lens of economic rights, which are considered an integral part of citizenship. In other words, once fundamental rights are ensured, individuals are then free to shape their own values. Knowing that they have stable employment and access to education, they can confidently pursue personal fulfillment,» said Alisher Tastenov, Chief Expert of the Asian Studies Department at Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies.

In recent years, the C5+1 format between China and Central Asian countries has gained increasing relevance. It promotes regional cooperation and strengthens engagement with China. Moreover, the current forum is a continuation of the partnership established at the Central Asia-China summit held in Astana this June. Participants also discussed the topic of personnel training in detail and agreed to continue sharing expertise.

«We are actively implementing initiatives that improve lives, enhance security, and promote cultural exchange. Over the next two years, 3,000 educational scholarships are set to be awarded to citizens of Central Asian countries,» noted Sun Weidong, Secretary General of the China-Central Asia Format Secretariat.
