Over 1.3 million tonnes of cargo
was transported along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in the
first half of this year, which is almost twice as much as in the same period of
2022, reported Kazakhstan’s national railway company. The government expects the
Middle Corridor to transport up to 10 million tonnes annually in the medium
term. Presently, it takes almost 23 days to deliver goods along the corridor.
It used to take 53 days before. And in the future, it is planned to reduce the shipping
time to 15 days. In addition to Kazakhstan, the route runs through China, the
Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to European countries. The Middle
Corridor association comprises 20 companies, including railway administrations,
ports, shipping and other transport organizations from eight countries.
