Astana hosted an
awards ceremony to honor the best representatives of Kazakhstan’s sports
sphere. This includes athletes who brought victories to the country throughout
the year and industry experts who significantly contributed to its development.
The city of Almaty received a special nomination and was recognized as the best
sports region by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Moreover, the title of ‘Athlete
of the Year’ was awarded to Makhmud Sabyrkhan, who secured victory for
Kazakhstan at the World Boxing Championships in Uzbekistan.
“This year, at the
World Championship held in Tashkent, our country’s national team won four gold
medals and one silver. Notably, I personally secured one of these gold medals.
The recognition as the best athlete, which I have been honored with, motivates
me for future victories. Currently, my goal is to obtain a license and compete
in the upcoming Olympics next year,” Sabyrkhan said.
According to the
relevant ministry, domestic athletes have demonstrated excellent results this
year. They participated in 1,400 international competitions and secured over
860 medals, including 291 gold ones. Notably, athletes brought home 68 medals from
the World Championships, 47 from the Asian Championships, and 10 from the Asian
Games.
