History, homeland, religion. These eternal themes are reflected in the works of Tamerlan Tles. An exhibition of a Kazakh sculptor is taking place in St. Petersburg. It displays the worldview of the Kazakh people through the prism of national history. The panel ‘Omir’ is a vivid example. To create it, the artist visited three continents in search of rare materials and craftsmen, who could work with them. After all, ancient craft traditions acquire new interpretations in the works of Tamerlan Tles. This exposition, where traditional crafts and modern technologies are intertwined, is a story, conveyed in the language of art. The exhibition will run until October 9.
“Local people know little about Kazakhstan. This is a wonderful country that you should definitely visit. This is the country with an ancient culture, beautiful ornaments, and a certain deep philosophy, which Tamerlan managed to convey in his works. Creative work is very unique. Different materials are applied, such as stones, mammoth tusk, metal, and even precious stones. We see a video here. This is a real video art, which was created on the basis of the traditional life of the Kazakhs, which is also very interesting,” said Mariya Filatova, research scientist at the State Museum of Oriental Art.
“Many people got acquainted with our culture. There were many questions about kokpar, our traditions, and it was an honor for me to tell them about our culture. I think that through art we will pave the way for people’s unity and will promote our culture in the Western world in its most beautiful form,” the sculptor opined.
