The long-awaited premiere of the first Kazakh comic
opera «Aisulu» took place on the stage of
the Astana Opera theater. The renowned Kazakh composer Sydyq Mukhamedzhanov
created the musical piece 60 years ago. The performance, presented in a unique
and unparalleled interpretation, has been specially prepared for the maestro’s
100th anniversary. The stage sets transport the audience to the atmosphere of
the 1960s and 1970s. Everything here is realistic – a city kiosk, street lamps,
a telephone booth, rails, and an old carriage. All of this allows the audience to
embark on an incredible journey into the past. The production is further enhanced
by the remarkable story of two lovers – Aisulu and Serke, whose characters are
skillfully portrayed by the artists of the capital’s theater.
«The event’s setting and time remained unchanged,
following the original script. However, we focused on the set design to enrich
each scene and create a unique stage space. We aimed to reflect how people
lived during that time, the prevailing atmosphere, and the subtle nuances of
the era, which we depicted through the stage decorations. In the second act of
the production, we used the composer’s archival materials, including
manuscripts, which allowed us to recreate some very interesting scenes that
you’ve never seen or heard before. All of this was highly appreciated by the
artists themselves,» noted stage director Yerenbak Toikenov.
