Agritourism is becoming a popular trend in Kazakhstan. The
popularity of this type of vacation is growing due to the opportunity to relax
away from big cities and get a closer look at the life of farmers, local
traditions, and culture. Tourists are warmly welcomed at a small farm located a
hundred kilometers from Astana. The farm raises goats, cows, and poultry. It
started operating about 10 years ago, but it became a full-fledged tourist
destination only last year. Every day, both local and international guests
visit the farm, where they are introduced to eco-friendly products and given
the opportunity to interact with animals.
«Tourists came to us on their own. I didn’t even expect that
many children couldn’t tell a cow from a horse or a sheep from a goat. Naturally,
parents bring their children so they can pet the animals and observe them,» said
entrepreneur Leila Semyonova.
«Katya is a city girl - for her, experiencing something like
this is completely exotic, let alone having the chance to feed real, live baby goats.
Can you imagine how much joy that brings? I believe this is something that should
be developed, nurtured, and scaled up.»
«I really enjoyed feeding the goats today - it was so much fun.
They’re really funny-looking, and their colors are amazing. Yesterday, we tried
different cheeses and kinds of milk, and there was even some sour cream. Everything
was really tasty, and I liked it a lot.»
Opportunities for agritourism in Kazakhstan are set to
expand. The Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament, is considering
a draft law that would grant farmers the right to engage in this type of
activity on their land.
