This year marks the
85th anniversary of the birth of Abish Kekilbayev, the People’s Writer of
Kazakhstan and a prominent state and public figure. He made his mark in the
literary world at a very young age. Among his most renowned works are the
novella «Abyss», as well as the novels «Urker» and «Elen-Alan». In 2019, the
Mangystau Regional Museum of Local History was named after the writer. A
commemorative exhibition dedicated to his anniversary has been opened at the
museum, showcasing over 380 valuable artifacts. These include the writer’s
personal belongings, books, manuscripts, and numerous photographs.
«This person wrote a
guidebook during his trip to Japan. The museum houses handwritten versions of
the guidebooks «Tyrau-tyrau tyrnalar» and «Uya men zhebe»,» said Nurgul
Zholdykyzy, head of department at the Mangystau Regional Local History Museum.
Poet Yedilbek Duissen
is an admirer of Abish Kekilbayev’s work. He has been familiar with the
writer's literary legacy since childhood. The poet has reread some of the
novels and novellas multiple times, which has enabled a deeper understanding of
the essence and spiritual value of each work, according to Duissen.
«Abish Kekilbayev’s
worldview can be described as elevated and cosmic, skillfully blending Kazakh philosophy,
Mangystau legends, and human psychology. Everything is profound and
multilayered. Moreover, I believe that his work «The End of the Legend» should
be known to all readers worldwide. I remember when it was translated into
German, it attracted special attention not only from readers from Germany but
also from literary critics,» shared poet Yedilbek Duissen.
Abish Kekilbayev dedicated
his entire life to selfless service to the Motherland, to the cause of
establishing and strengthening Kazakhstan’s independence. He made a significant
contribution to the development of Kazakh literature and the strengthening of
the spiritual integrity of the people. For his outstanding achievements, he was
awarded the title of «Hero of Labour of Kazakhstan».
