74-year-old Kazakh traveler returns home from walking journey

Kazakh aksakal Sarsenbai Kotyrashov, who once again completed an incredible hiking journey, has returned to his homeland. Over the course of three months, the 74-year-old pensioner covered about 3,000 kilometers. His route passed through Russia, Mongolia, and China. Notably, Kotyrashov began the first stage of his journey two years ago, in 2022. At that time, his journey had started from his homeland, Ulytau. In six months, Kotyrashov, whose dream is to walk around the entire globe, covered 8,000 kilometers. Last year, his 100-day route included 3,000 kilometers and passed through Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, and Türkiye.

«Next year, I intend to fly to Istanbul, and from there, I plan to continue my journey across Europe, visiting countries such as Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and France. Then, from France, I want to fly to the U.S. to travel from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast,» said traveler Sarsenbai Kotyrashov.

Throughout his life, Sarsenbai Kotyrashov has worked as a restorer and participated in numerous archaeological expeditions. He helped restore thousands of unique historical artifacts.

«I do not boast, nor do I aim to break any records or glorify my name. I simply fulfill my civic duty to my homeland. I want to tell the younger generation about our heritage, not by reading from books, but by presenting facts revealed through the artifacts I have held in my own hands,» Kotyrashov added.

The Kazakh traveler sets himself the goal of reaching Mecca. Before that, as part of his planned route, he aims to walk through all the Turkic countries.
