Kazakhstan will once again participate in the Asian Winter
Games (AWG), which will take place from February 7 to 14 in China. The country
will be represented by 138 athletes, who will compete in 10 disciplines across
six sports: curling, cross-country skiing, freestyle acrobatics, figure
skating, ice hockey, alpine skiing, speed skating, short track, biathlon, and
ski mountaineering, which has been included in the Games’ program for the first
time. Kazakh athletes will compete for 51 sets of medals. This will be
Kazakhstan’s sixth participation in the AWG, with athletes first competing in
Harbin in 1996. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the country
has won 196 medals in the AWG to date, including 78 gold, 62 silver, and 56
bronze. This year, over 1,000 athletes from 32 Asian countries will compete for
64 sets of medals.
