Youth project ‘Jas Nomad’ aims at revival of traditions

The project ‘Jas Nomad’ will help the revival of forgotten Kazakh traditions and customs. The action plan includes four directions. The first one is online classes. Video lessons that teach how to properly cut meat for national dishes or play national games will be posted on Internet platforms. The next stage is aimed at reviving the forgotten traditional professions. Offline masterclasses will include handicrafts, pottery, toolmaking, sewing, and yurt assembly. Educational videos will be available to young people between the ages of 14 and 29. In addition, a competition of videos about the rich culture and traditions of the Kazakh people will be announced. In the final stage, it is planned to conduct surveys in social media in Kazakh and Russian to find out the attitude of modern youth to national values. The project dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence will be being implemented until the end of the year.

“All activities under this project are free of charge. Hence, the population is showing a great interest in them. Not only young people come, but also older people. They are happy to share their advice on how to assemble a yurt and a lot of other things. In the future, we plan to reach residents and guests of the city, in total from 2,500 to 3,000 people,” said Ayan Yermentayev, Deputy Head of Youth Resource Center ‘Astana Jastary.’
