Almaty will host the 7th Youth Forum of the World Petroleum Council from September 29 to October 2 for the first time in Central Asia. The event is planned to address the issues of global energy transition, decarbonization and low-carbon development. Over 700 delegates from 29 countries have already confirmed their participation in the congress. It bears noting that the World Petroleum Council is a non-profit organization accredited to the UN. Its objective is to create conditions for discussing key issues of the oil and gas industry. The Organization includes 59 countries. Kazakhstan became a full member of the Council in 2008. The day before, Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov met with President of this organization Pedro Miras. Smailov stressed that Kazakhstan is interested in the development of hydrogen energy and the conversion of coal plants to gas. At present, the country is developing the Strategy for achieving carbon neutrality until 2060.
